5 Things to Expect When Recovering From Lasik Surgery

After your Lasik procedure is over, you can expect a quick recovery, but may need to maintain your eyes for awhile with eyedrops and minor lifestyle changes for a short while (i.e. swimming & contact sports).

1. The doctor will send you home and instruct you to keep your eyes closed for a day. You will likely be in bed resting this whole time.

2. The day after the surgery, your vision should be good enough to see clearly and drive yourself back for your follow up visit to the eye clinic.

3. You will experience dryness in your eyes, and the doctor should address this. They may even give you some lubricating drops. If not, you will need to pick some up for yourself. Either way, you should apply these drops at least three times per day to keep your eyes moist.

4. Your eyes will likely be a little bit red, which should go away naturally in a few days.

5. Avoid using makeup, drinking alcohol, rubbing your eyes, and engaging in contact sports for a few days after your surgery. Avoid swimming for a few days and try not to get shower water in your eyes.

Your surgeon will schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your recovery and progress. Contact him or her immediately if you experience any strange symptoms or vision problems.
